<b>Yorktown volleyball has high hopes</b>
The Yorktown volleyball team improved to 2-0 with a 3-0 victory over McLean on Sept 2.
The Patriots travel to take on T.C. Williams at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. They also played a road match Tuesday at Westfield. Results were not available as of press time.
Yorktown is led by senior outside hitter Elyse Bush, a first-team all-region selection and district player of the year last season. Yorktown coach Brittanie Behar said the Patriots have their eyes set on winning their third district championship in her fourth season as head coach.
<b>Washington-Lee football struggling with depth</b>
The Washington-Lee football team lost its season opener to McLean, 44-14, on Friday.
Generals head coach Josh Shapiro said the team was missing seven starters due to injury or other circumstances, and the number is now eight headed into Friday’s game against South County.
Shapiro also said the Generals struggled with tackling as McLean running back Riley Beiro rushed for nearly 300 yards.
"He’s real good," Shapiro said. "He ran all over us."
There were some bright spots for Washington-Lee. Linebacker Rock Battle finished with 12 tackles, running back Anthony Taylor rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Richard Lewis threw for 104 yards and a score.
<b>Yorktown football wins</b>
The Yorktown football team defeated Wilson (Washington, D.C.) 36-14 in its season opener.
