<b>West Potomac Football Ends Season with Loss</b>

The West Potomac football team lost to Annandale 34-12 on Friday, ending its season with a 2-8 record.

Running back Darel Layne accounted for the Wolverines scoring with a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. The senior rushed 16 times for 147 yards.

Junior receiver Daryl Copeland caught seven passes for 121 yards. Senior quarterback Colin Mathewson completed 14 of 26 passes for 190 yards and was intercepted once.

Senior safety Colin McConville led West Potomac with nine tackles. Senior linebacker Shakil White and junior defensive back Brandon Johnson each finished with eight.

Senior linemen Silas Agyeman and Matt Cunningham each had one sack.

<b>Mount Vernon Football Falls Short against Wakefield</b>

The Mount Vernon football team had a second-half lead against Wakefield on Friday but fell short against the Warriors, 34-29.

Mount Vernon finished the season 0-10.

<b>Mount Vernon Field Hockey Players Honored</b>

Six members of the Mount Vernon field hockey team received all-National District accolades for the 2009 season. Senior midfielders Marcy Hoath and Katie Lucas and senior forward Leia Schantz led the way as first-team selections. Hoath was also an all-region selection.

Seniors Gabby Gadson (defender) and Sara Duncan (goalkeeper) were second-team selections, and sophomore forward Allie Schray garnered honorable mention.
