Regional playoff results and a MV basketball camp

First Round Losses for MV Baseball, Softball

Both the Mount Vernon baseball and softball teams lost in their first round Northern Region tournament matchups last Friday night.

The Major baseball team fell victim to a stellar pitching performance, losing 7-2 to Lake Braddock, winners of two of the past three regional titles. Led by starter Brian Derner, the Bruins pitching staff carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Mount Vernon’s Mike Murdock broke it up with a triple. The Majors scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Mount Vernon ended the season with a 15-9 record.

Meanwhile, the Mount Vernon softball team dropped its first round regional game, 2-1, to Patriot District foe Annandale.

MV Basketball Camp

The Mount Vernon boys and girls basketball teams will be co-hosting the 2008 Major Basketball Camp. The camp will take place in the gym at Mount Vernon High School with two sessions (June 22-26 and June 29-July 3). There is a discount for attending both sessions.

The camp will be run by boys’ team head coach Alfonso Smith and girls’ head coach Terry Henderson. Smith was named Northern Region Coach of the Year this past winter, while Henderson was named National District coach of the year in his first year with the program.
