Yorktown and Washington-Lee met on the baseball diamond last Wednesday in a matchup of teams expected to contend for the National District title this season. The Patriots emerged victorious, 9-4, behind a strong pitching performance from starter Kyle Toulouse, who gave up five hits and no earned runs over seven innings. The senior also hit a solo homerun at the plate.
W-L was led by Will Brower (two hits) and Charlie Vitale (two RBIs).
Yorktown (4-1) also defeated Edison by mercy rule Monday night, 11-0. The Patriots travel to Mount Vernon Wednesday, after the Connection’s deadline. W-L (3-2) rebounded Friday night to beat Stuart, 16-6.
<b>Area Soccer Team Wins St. Patty’s Day Tourney</b>
Stafford’s St. Patrick’s Day Tournament was held March 21-22. Coming out on top was the Arlington Flame, winning the U-13 Girls Green Division. The Flame went 2-0-1 in pool play and then went on to defeat the Chantilly Revolution, 3-1, in the tournament finals. The Flame begins league play this month.
