The Washington Metropolitan Chapter of Community Associations Institute (WMCCAI) named Jeremy R. Moss, an associate with MercerTrigiani law firm, a 2008 Rising Star. Moss received his law degree in 2007 from the Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America and is a 2003 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Somkiat Cholvanich participated in the 56th Presidential Inauguration Jan. 20 as part of the largest ever contingent of National Guard members to serve in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Yupa Chin of Alexandria. The sergeant received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, N.J.
Carla Carter has been named the new assistant principal for James K. Polk Elementary School effective Monday, Feb. 23. For the past two years, she has served as Polk’s Performance Evaluation Program (PEP) Specialist. PEP is Alexandria City Public Schools' teacher evaluation program. Carter has been with Alexandria City Public Schools for 12 years. Prior to becoming a PEP Specialist, Carter was an elementary classroom teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A & T and a master’s degree from George Mason University.
Lafayette Frederick (’52) of Alexandria, received the Washington State University Alumni Association (WSUAA) Alumni Achievement Award. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the WSUAA and recognizes Frederick for his outstanding teaching, research, mentoring and contributions to the fields of botany and mycology.
