<b>Yorktown Tennis Pair at States</b>
Yorktown’s Lydia Getachew and Emily Flickinger capped off a season in which the duo took home the National District doubles title and a second-place showing in the Northern Region bracket by going 1-1 at this past weekend’s AAA state tennis tournament.
The pair were the lone representatives from the Patriots this year, defeating a team from Cox High School, 7-5, 6-0 before falling to Loudoun Valley’s Kiersten Pappas and Juliana Jacangelo, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Pappas and Jacangelo went on to capture the state doubles title.
Flickinger, a sophomore, and Getachew, a senior, played both singles and doubles for the Yorktown girls’ tennis team, which went undefeated in regular season district play this year and had individual champions in both the singles’ and doubles’ competition at the district tournament.
