Officer Damien Austin and K9 Smokey of the Town of Herndon Police Department will graduate from K9 School Friday, Jan. 16, 10 a.m. at the Fairfax County Police Canine Training Facility, 3721 Stonecroft Blvd., Chantilly. The 14-week basic training course includes sessions on patrol

techniques and narcotics detection and the teams are trained in tracking and locating criminal suspects, as well as endangered missing persons.

David T. Lewis, son of Samuel R. Lewis of Oak Hill, graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. The primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet's intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) announced the addition of Patrick Day of Herndon to his Senate staff in Washington, D.C. Patrick will serve as a staff assistant in the Senator’s office where he was an intern in the summer of 2008. Day graduated from Oakton High School in 2003 and the University of Tennessee in May.

Annah J. Gbee, student at George Mason University, has graduated from the Army ROTC Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer. College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their college.

Army Pfc. Brandon L. Tanner has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Tanner is the grandson of Mary Burroughs of Hemlock Court. In 1998, Tanner graduated from Herndon High School.

Evan M. Humphrey has graduated from the Army ROTC Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. Humphrey is the son of Frank M. Humphrey and Alexis L. Mazzocco of Otsego Drive, in Oak Hill. In 2006, Humprhey graduated from Oakton High School.

Air Force Maj. Gilberto Patino graduated from the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium general cardiology fellowship. Patino is a cardiology fellow with the 59th Medical Operation Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The major has served in the military for 13 years. His wife, Theresa, is the daughter of Tom Tatlow of Juniper Court, Herndon.

Air Force Airman Greg Colling has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the brother of Ernest Colling IV of Astoria Circle, Herndon.
