T.C. Boys To Play at McNamara
The T.C. Williams boys basketball team will play in a two-day holiday event at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Md., on Dec. 29-30. The Titans will take on Princeton Day Academy (Lanham, Md.) on Dec. 29 and Friendship Collegiate Academy (Washington D.C.) on Dec. 30.
T.C. Williams’ first game of 2010 will be at 8 p.m. Jan. 5 against Riverdale Baptist at The Garden.
The Titans will face Annandale on Dec. 18, Kecoughtan on Dec. 19 and Woodson on Dec. 22.
T.C. Girls Will Stay Local
Last year, the T.C. Williams girls basketball team traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for a holiday tournament. This season, the Titans will be closer to home.
T.C. Williams will participate in the Waldorf Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 26 and 28-29 in Waldorf, Md. Games will be held at Westlake High School and North Point High School. The Titans’ first game is 6 p.m. Dec. 26 against North Point at Westlake High School.
T.C. Williams head coach Cavanaugh Haven said she expects good competition at the tournament. The Titans are the only team not from Maryland among the eight girls participants listed on the tournament Web site. The other girls teams are: Bowie, Eleanor Roosevelt, Good Counsel, North Point, Old Mill, Urbana and Westlake.
If T.C. Williams defeats North Point, the Titans on Dec. 28 will face the winner of Good Counsel and Bowie. If T.C. Williams loses to North Point, the Titans on Dec. 28 will take on the loser of Good Counsel and Bowie.
Hagen said the tournament will provide the Titans a chance to work on playing well consistently. T.C. Williams lost at West Springfield, 79-45, on Dec. 11, a defeat Hagen referred to as an "eye opener."
"We were outplayed, outworked and outhustled," Hagen said. "… With those three things you rarely come away with a win."
Jasmine Norman led T.C. Williams with 14 points and Rainie Summa added 11. Hagen said the team needs a group effort to succeed.
"Everyone involved in girls basketball [in the Alexandria area] has to stay positive and give us time to get used to playing with each other," Hagen said.
T.C. Williams will face Annandale on Dec. 18 and Woodson on Dec. 22.
