Michael Hussey from Alexandria has made the Dean's List for Franklin & Marshall College's spring 2009 semester. Hussey is the son of Thomas Hussey and Cheryl Hussey and is a graduate of Potomac School.
Daniel Thomas Noler of Alexandria was named to the Dean's List of Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts for the Spring 2009 semester.

* Frank Butner Clay IV, enrolling as a Patrick Henry Scholar, is a graduate of St. Stephens & St. Agnes School and is the son of Ann and Frank Clay of Alexandria.

Three Alexandria residents graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy on May 30, 2009.
* Victor McKoy, senior class president, was an outstanding athlete while at R-MA. He ran track and played both football and basketball. He was named MVP for both the football and track teams. At the end-of-year awards ceremony, Vic was presented the Athlete of the Year Award. Cadet Captain McKoy served the corps of cadet as a squadron executive officer. Vic earned the Dean’s List for maintaining a grade point average above 3.3 during the fourth quarter of his senior year. Victor also played in R-MA’s award-winning band. He received scholarships totaling $124,000 and was accepted to six colleges and universities. Vic plans to attend the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
* Paul K. Piontkowski Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul K. Piontkowski, played lacrosse while a student at R-MA. He was a member of the lacrosse team, which won the Delaney Athletic Conference Championship for the first time this year. PJ received scholarships totaling $20,000 to attend Lynchburg College in the fall.
* Trae Primrose, son of Richard and Julie Primrose, ran track while a student at R-MA. He received scholarships totaling $26,000 and was accepted to three colleges and universities. Trae plans to attend Middle Tennessee State University in the fall.
Miranda Chadwick of Alexandria was named to the dean's list at Curry College in Milton, Mass., for the spring term.
Steven Jeffrey Brown has been selected by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg for Honors Admission for the fall of 2009. Brown is the son of Les Brown and Patti Dilley of Alexandria, and is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School. A National Merit Scholarship Competition Commended Student, he was president of the chess team and captain of the "It's Academic" team. He was a member of the varsity tennis team and volunteered at the library and in Phi Theta Kappa community service activities.
Kendall Cole Davis of Alexandria was named to the dean's list at Lafayette College for the spring semester.
Gabrielle Rose Kuhn has been selected by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg for Honors Admission for the fall of 2009. Kuhn is the daughter of Doug and Elizabeth Kuhn of Alexandria, and is a graduate of Bishop Ireton High School. A National Honor Society member, she is the recipient of the President's Education Award. Kuhn was an events coordinator for the drama club and a member of the International Thespian Society. She participated in a Catholic youth group work camp.

Hilary Adams from Bishop Ireton School has been selected for and has chosen to attend this summer's residential Governor's School at Christopher Newport University in Newport news, Va. Each summer, 400 students who have exhibited exceptional ability in their particular discipline are invited to participate in the Governor's School for Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts.
Sean Edward Sutherland of Alexandria received a B.A. in sports management from Lynchburg College on May 16th.
Natalie Titerence of Alexandria graduated from Niagara University in New York on May 17 at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Clair Young Sun Maher has been selected by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg for Honors Admission for the fall of 2009. Maher is the daughter of William F. Maher Jr. and Michelle Berberet of Alexandria, and is a graduate of T.C. Williams High School. A member of the National Honor Society, Maher is a recipient of the Percy Lavon Julian Achievement Award for biology. A member of the girls' tennis team, she has been a scholar athlete all four years. She's also a member of the Simple Changes Therapeutic Riding Program and rides, shows and trains horses. In addition, she is an accomplished pianist and a volunteer for a high school tutoring program.

The T.C. Williams High School Symphonic 1 Band earned the Music Festivals National Concert Band Award for receiving the highest score of any band to perform at more than 20 performance sites across the eastern seaboard this spring. The band earned this honor for its performance during the Music Department's spring trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., in April.
Jennifer "Lynne" Wilson of Alexandria has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany. She is a 2005 T.C. Williams High School graduate and a recent cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University. She is presently interning at the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin for the summer 2009, and will begin her Fulbright assignment in Cologne, Germany, this September, for a term thru July 2010.

Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy is one of 27 finalists for the National Schools of Character Education competition, sponsored by the Character Education Partnership. Lyles Crouch, the only finalist from greater Washington, D.C., advanced to the national competition after winning the statewide competition for having the most outstanding character program of all the schools in Virginia.
Three long-time Alexandria community organizations — the Rotary Club of Alexandria, the Goodwin House, and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra — recently collaborated to sponsor a music competition for juniors and seniors in area high schools. Six outstanding Alexandria student musicians participated in the Alexandria Rotary’s annual Music Competition. Judging the competition, and then leading the students in a follow-up “Masterclass” one-on-one instruction, was Kim Allen Kluge, music director of the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra.
Annie Trimber, a flutist and a senior at West Potomac High School, was awarded the Rotary Club of Alexandria’s Gold performance award and will now move on to compete in the Regional competition for the $5,000 in music scholarships awarded each year by Rotary District 7610.
While Trimber took the top Gold honors, Silver performance awards went to three students at St. Stephens & St. Agnes School: Kelly Bragg, a vocalist; Will Jakes, a cello player, and Ian McLeod, a pianist. Bragg and McLeod are seniors and Jakes is a junior. Bronze performance awards went to Tia Norris-Towler, a violin player a T. C. Williams junior, and to Dorothea Kamara, a senior at West Potomac High School.
On Feb. 28, the T.C. Williams High School Titans Debate Team competed in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Patriot District Tournament. Titan debaters Yasmin Faruki and Saif Chames-Eddine qualified for VHSL Regionals when both won their elimination round.
Fairfax County Public Schools students have been named to the Virginia All-State Chorus for 2009 and performed as a group April 23-25 at Massaponax High School in Fredricksburg. In the search for The Country’s Funniest College Student, RooftopComedy’s 2nd Annual National College Comedy Competition named T.C. Williams High School graduate Chris Stephens to Columbia College Chicago’s Comedy Team.
T.C. Williams High School Graphic Design student Sarah Davis created the winning artwork in the City of Alexandria’s annual contest to make a logo for the city’s Earth Day celebration. Davis’ collage depicting a tree with roots made up of pictures of earth-friendly transportation modes will be used for all promotional materials advertising this year's event, which will be held at Ben Brenman Park on April 25. Several students entered the competition. Second place went to Neeracha Sunthontip, a T.C. Williams Art 1 student.
Three T.C. Williams High School Chamber Choir students attended the District Ten Honors Choir during February. Participants included junior Jessica Palma and seniors Maham Ayaz and Christian Jimenez. Ayaz was chosen as a soloist for the performance on Saturday afternoon. In a separate audition at the event, Jimenez was selected to be one of two district representatives for Tenor 1 at the All-Virginia Honors Choir in April.
Jefferson-Houston School for Arts and Academics third-grader Narisse King is among the winners in Delegate David Englin’s first annual Youth Art Contest. King’s abstract skateboard design was displayed in the General Assembly building in Richmond. She will receive a custom skateboard deck and a T-shirt from Convoy Skateboards.
Four Alexandria City Public Schools musical groups received straight I (Superior) ratings at the District X Band and Orchestra Festivals this past weekend. The Superior performers include the George Washington Middle School Symphonic Band, continuing a multi-year streak; the ACPS All-City Sinfonia Orchestra; the Francis C. Hammond Middle School Orchestra and the George Washington Middle School Orchestra. The T.C. Williams Chamber Orchestra received an overall rating of Superior, as did the T.C. Williams High School Symphonic Band, which performed music rated a Grade VI, the highest level of difficulty.

The George Washington Middle School Jazz Band, under the direction of Rick Seracino, won second place in the middle schools division at the Chantilly Invitational Jazz Festival on Friday, March 27. Their performance earned them superior ratings from each of the three judges (like District judging, Superior is the highest rating possible) and their overall point total earned them second place honors behind Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon. Luke Young, lead trombone, was selected to the festival's all-star jazz band.
Alexandria resident Rebecca Siegal, 18, won the 2008 Sea Scout of the Year award and the Catherine A. Mullikin Sea Scout Volunteer of the Year Award. The latter is named for a Sea Scout who was killed by a drunk driver in 1998. Siegal has also been accepted for the Sea Scout Advanced Leadership (SEAL) Training in June. Siegal, a homeschooled high school senior, is also taking courses at Northern Virginia Community College. She plans to complete her associate's degree in 2010, then transfer as a junior to a university. Her goals include working in a field using her passion for geology, anthropology, archaeology and forensic science to help people understand the past better.

Toscano is expected to receive a bachelor of science degree in pre-veterinary medicine/biology. Toscano, a 2005 graduate of Bishop Ireton High School, is the daughter of Mary and James Toscano.
