Dr. Cheryl Hussey died on April 13, 2009 at age 57, after a long and arduous, yet courageous, struggle with pancreatic cancer. Cheryl was born in Tucson, Ariz. on Jan. 24, 1952, where she attended Amphi High School and stayed through her undergraduate college years at the University of Arizona. She moved to Cincinnati for a short time and then came to Virginia where she worked in government while she pursued a Master’s Degree from Catholic University, followed by a second Master’s Degree and then an EdD doctorate from George Washington University. A good listener, Cheryl spent her working time as a clinical family psychologist and enjoyed her encounters with all of her patients. Her fun time was spent with her children and menagerie of animals she had rescued and adopted.
Her house has four cats, many birds, various small creatures and of course her beloved dog, Mac. She was a passionate equestrian who spent many weekends with her two horses, Avenlee and Cano.
Cheryl is survived by her children, Elizabeth, Michael and Katherine, the children’s father, Thom, all in Alexandria and Cheryl’s brother, Mark, of Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009 in the Immanuel Chapel on the grounds of Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
