The 2008 Tag Day annual fund-raiser run by the award-winning South Lakes High School Band has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 20, because of tropical storm Hannah. Donations collected during Tag Day are used to purchase new music, hire additional clinicians, pay competition fees, rent equipment, repair instruments and to reduce the cost of student trips to participate in competitions or festivals.
Members of the SLHS Band Wind Ensemble will travel to New Your City this spring to participate in the Third Annual New York Band & Orchestra Festival at Carnegie Hall from March 29 until April 2, 2009. In April 2006, the South Lakes Wind Ensemble was one of three high school bands and two college wind ensembles invited to play at the Kennedy Center as part of the inaugural Washington, D.C. International Wind Band Festival.
