St. Stephen's & St. Agnes senior Hadley Lankford set the single-season assist record in the regular season finale, topping Claire Gillespie's mark of 68 set in 1997. During a 16-3 victory over Georgetown Visitation, the Dartmouth-bound midfielder had five assists, bringing her total to a record-setting 69.
“She is unbelievable,” said head coach Cathy Jenkins. “She’s having a great year. She gives it everything she’s got.”
On Tuesday, April 15, senior Hadley Lankford was honored at the Alexandria Sportman's Club dinner as the "Female Athlete of the Month.’
The nationally-No. 1 ranked Saints, according www.laxpower.net won the league title for the 14th consecutive year. SSSAS has compiled a perfect 20-0 record, 8-0 in the ISL AA division.
“We don’t really talk about, we have to win this, this and this,” Jenkins said recently. “We try to keep them focused to keep working hard.”
The Saints have 11 Division I-bound players, including Cassie Pyle (Princeton), who missed two weeks while she had surgery on her thumb. Seniors Annie Taylor (Virginia), Erika Herrera (Stanford) are also reasons why Jenkins is having so much fun.
“I love it,” Jenkins said. “I go home and I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to coach young girls. They’re fun to be around.”
