Outlook: Had last year’s Virginia state girls lacrosse final lasted a few more minutes, the Woodson Cavaliers could have been entering this season as the reigning state champs. Trailing 12-6 with just under 11 minutes left, the Cavs began to mount an impressive comeback, scoring four unanswered goals to cut the lead to two. Although their comeback fell short, the Cavs ended their season with a huge confidence boost. This year, Woodson brings back the two players that sparked the comeback, senior attack Margaret Thaxton (first-team all-Liberty District) and senior midfield Sarah Vinall (first-team all-Northern Region). The Cavaliers did lose Liberty District Player of the Year Mia Naccarato, who scored four goals in the state final, but look primed to again challenge Oakton and Robinson for state supremacy.
