Quotable: “David Hall is phenomenal. I don’t care if we win a game all year, he is one of the best players in our district, hands down.” – coach Jed Williams
Outlook: In his second year as the Wildcats’ head coach, Jed Williams is working on convincing his team that they can compete in the highly-competitive Concorde District. After going 0-6 in district games last year, Williams wants this year’s squad to believe that it can win.
“We are high school boys and they are high school boys. They strap on the same helmet that we strap on and they use the same stick. They wear shoulder pads just like we do,” said Williams of district-powerhouses Oakton, Westfield, Robinson and Chantilly. “They need to believe like I do that they can win. If they believe that they can win, then they will at least be able to compete and potentially knock off some of these Concorde teams.”
The Wildcats will field a much-improved squad, with senior David Hall anchoring the team’s defense, as well as picking up a short stick to help on offense.
“David Hall is phenomenal. I don’t care if we win a game all year, he is one of the best players in our district, hands down,” said Williams.
Last year, Hall moved to attack for the Wildcats, but Williams believes that his senior star will be more at home in the backfield.
“He installs fear in the other team. They won’t go for a ground ball if he is around because they know that they are going to get lit up,” said Williams. Hall led the Wildcats with 56 ground balls last year.
Also returning for Centreville is senior Kyle Cragg (25 goals, 7 assist) and junior Brent Sikora (22 goals, 9 assists).
“I definitely think that we have improved since last year. It will be interesting when we get into our Concorde District schedule,” said Williams. The Wildcats start their district schedule sooner than usual, as they travel to Westfield on March 26.
