West Potomac Bands in the News

At the recent state festival the West Potomac Symphonic Band received ratings of Excellent on stage and Superior in their sight reading. They were the only second band from any school in the district to attempt the Grade V literature they played!

The Wind Ensemble had an outstanding performance at Grade VI (the highest in Virginia) and received straight superior ratings and straight A's in all captions!

Due to the Wind Ensemble's performance and our superior marching band performance at the State Festival in the fall, West Potomac is proud to be named a 2008 Virginia Honor Band (the highest honor a band can receive from the state.)

Congratulations also to Margaret Amos who was selected for the All-State Band on trumpet. Devan Maddox and Jessica Mar were named as alternates.

Graham Kolle auditioned for All-Virginia Orchestra a couple weeks ago and placed second in the state as a freshman. There are very few Virginian freshmen who make this group — let alone place second.

The West Potomac Concert Orchestra performed at District X Orchestra Festival and received a Superior Rating of 1.

West Potomac Advanced Orchestra also performed at the Festival. They played "Ralph Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," which is one of the most beautiful, expressive, and difficult pieces of string orchestra music ever written. They also received a Superior Rating.
