David Tran, 18, was awarded a corporate-sponsored scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The son of Nancy and Timothy Tran of Freedom Park in Vienna is active in the Student Advisory Council at Marshall High School, and a member of these honor societies: Math, Science, Chinese and National Honor Society. He competes on "It’s Academic," and placed first in the state in the Econ Challenge. David is also on the Red Cross Club, Earth Force, and plays viola in the Marshall Orchestra. He is also a full IB Diploma Candidate and won first place at the 2007 ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) Regional competition and went on to compete at states. In addition, he’s member of Future Business Leaders of America and this year participated the Junior Achievement Mentoring Program, where he volunteered to teach business and community concepts to children at Shrevewood Elementary. He is also a club officer in FAAD/SADD (Friends Against Alcohol & Drugs/ Students Against Destructive Decisions) and also attends academic and bilingual classes at Hope Chinese School. David hopes to major in biology and pursue a career in neuro surgery.
