Car Registration Requirements:
All new residents must obtain a driver’s license and new automobile registrations within 30 days of becoming a resident of the county. They can be obtained at DMV in Leesburg and Sterling. The phone number is 866-368-5463. New residents, who have a valid out-of-state license, must pass a vision test. All automobiles must pass an annual safety inspection, which costs $16 and is available at state-certified stations. All residents must have a county or town automobile sticker for their personal property tax return. The phone number is 703-777-0280, stickers are renewed every year.
Inspection Requirements:
No vehicle subject to an emissions inspection will be registered or reregistered by DMV until it has passed an emissions inspection.

The inspection station should not charge more than $28 for emissions inspection. Motorists will be charged an additional $2 per year by DMV for vehicle registration.
