Tracy L. Sullivan was appointed as the new executive director of the Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden in Old Town Alexandria. Ms. Sullivan, a resident of the City of Alexandria, joined the Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden in early December.

Several sales associates have been honored for their achievements at Weichert, Realtors’ Alexandria/Old Town office:

* Diann Hicks led the office in sales. Hicks who also speaks French has over 20 years experience as a real estate professional. She became an associate broker in 2001.

* Leading the office in listings was Chairman of the Board Elite Club Bobi Bomar. Weichert's Excutive Club member Tina Rodgers led the office in total units

* Topping the office in total sales, total units, and total volume was Rebecca Leikheim. Leikheim is a member of Weichert's President's Gold Club. Leading the office in listings was Lesa Jones. Jones has been a resident of Northern Virginia for 35 years giving her in-depth knowledge of the local market.

Several sales associates have been honored for their achievements of Weichert Realtors’ Alexandria/Belle View Office: Topping the office in total sales was Paul Kaeppel. Wayne Frost led the office in total units and total volume. Leading the office in listings were Brandy Buzinski and Inderjeet Jumani.

Belle Haven Animal Medical Centre of Alexandria has again received accreditation following a comprehensive evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association. Dominion, one of the nation’s largest energy producers, will honor nine renowned African-Americans selected for their accomplishments and leadership through its 18th annual Strong Men & Women: Excellence in Leadership educational series including Israel L. Gaither – first African-American commander of the U.S. Salvation Army, Alexandria.

Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) announces its 2008 Board of Directors including Alexandria residents Erin Wendel, American Podiatric Medical Association, who is the new treasurer and Laura Spitz, American Road and Transportation Builders Association, who is the Web site support chair.

Mount Vernon Athletic Club, L.L.C., introduces Wayne Toyne as a racquetball expert. Wayne has over 20 years of racquetball experience first starting out during his time in the Air Force, using the game as a fun way to lose weight. He became a certified instructor and has had numerous successes in teaching players of all levels, from children to beginners to advanced national champions. Wayne is a Level 3 AmPRO instructor and also assists in issuing certifications.

ASTM International Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology has honored Alexandria resident Stephen P. Markle, P.E., engineering director at Navalis Environmental Systems, LLC, with the John Haas Memorial Award. Markle was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the work of F25, a committee that specializes in the development of standards related to shipbuilding and marine vessels. Markle joined ASTM International in 1997. He is active in Committee F25 and its various subcommittees, and serves as chairman of Subcommittee F25.06 on Marine Environmental Protection.

Kim Farina, branch manager, announced that Eva Damelin of Weichert, Realtors' Alexandria/Old Town Office has been honored for a regional award. Damelin led the region in resale revenue units. The region consists of The region consists of 12 offices in northern Virginia.

The City of Alexandria received an award from the United States Conference of Mayors for the "The Station at Potomac Yard," a partnership between the City of Alexandria and national home builders Pulte Homes and Centex (also known as Potomac Yard Development, LLC). Ten cities received Public-Private Partnership Awards in two categories: Awards of Excellence and Outstanding Achievement Awards. Alexandria is one of two municipalities to receive an Award of Excellence. The award, which was presented to Mayor William D. Euille at the Mayors’ 76th Winter Meeting, was established to encourage businesses and cities to work together to improve local communities. The Station at Potomac Yard was cited as an outstanding model of sustainable design, construction, and livability. The Comcast Foundation awarded a $60,000 grant to the Alexandria Volunteer Bureau and a $20,000 grant to the Northern Virginia Urban League. The donations will help fund various youth leadership development programs aimed at improving the quality of life and encouraging community involvement of local youth.

Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria was awarded Elite of Lexus for the 11th year in a row.

The City of Alexandria was named by Popular Science as one of "America’s 50 Greenest Cities," localities that were cited as leaders in implementing successful and rapid environmental action. Avalon Technology, Inc. (Avalon) today is one of three vendors chosen by the General Services Administration (GSA) to streamline the procurement and management of wireless devices and services used by the Federal government.
