The Loudoun Volunteer Services Board has established scholarships for graduating seniors from each Loudoun County public and private high school and from the homeschool community. The scholarships recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the county community through their volunteer efforts. Different from traditional scholarships, the Loudoun Volunteer Services� student scholarships place more emphasis on a demonstrated interest in, and service to, the community than on academic or athletic excellence.

Students should submit their scholarship applications to Loudoun Volunteer Services, MSC 03, 1 Harrison St., S.E., Leesburg, VA 20175, by the close of business May 1. Applications are available at each school, by visiting www.loudoun.gov/volunteer, by calling 703-737-8424, or e-mailing pivs@loudoun.gov.

Loudoun County�s annual Youth Fest is set for Saturday, June 21, from 3-9 p.m., at Belmont Country Club. The Loudoun Youth Initiative is accepting applications for exhibitors. A limited number of spaces will be available. Exhibitors must offer services or programs for youth, ages 12-17 and be a nonprofit (501c3) agency. Get Caught Reading Contest. Join in National Photography Month in May and Get Caught Reading Month. Take a pictures of family and friends reading their favorite books, bring the digital and traditional photos into the Sterling Library, 120 Enterprise St., Sterling. There will be a prize drawing at the end of the month. Recommended for all ages. Visit www.lcpl.lib.va.us.

The Loudoun County affordable dwelling unit (ADU) program is accepting applications for 22 units available for adults age 55 and over at Potomac Green, an adult retirement planned community in Ashburn. Contact the ADU program of the Department of Family Services, 703-737-8043.

The 2008 edition of the Loudoun County "Guide to Services" is now available. Produced by the Office of Public Information, the guide is a comprehensive handbook of information about services provided by the county government, as well as services provided by other governmental and nongovernmental agencies. Copies of the guide are available at Loudoun County community centers, public libraries and at the front counters of county government departments and agencies.
