Dave Neal, a junior forward at the University of Maryland, was honored during the Terrapins’ annual Honors Banquet on April 17 at Comcast Center, according to a press release.
Neal, a Bishop O’Connell graduate, was presented the Maryland Basketball Academic Award by assistant coach Chuck Driesell, the former coach at Bishop Ireton. The award is presented to the student-athlete who has the highest grade-point average.
Neal, who is enrolled in the College of Letters and Science and is majoring in criminal justice, appeared in 22 games during the season.
The Coach Morgan Wootten Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to athletic trainer J.J. Bush, who has served in the Maryland athletic department for 36 years. Morgan Wootten retired with a lifetime coaching record of 1,274-192 (.869) and is the father of current O’Connell coach Joe Wootten.
Over 350 attendees came out for the annual event.
