Area Basketball Coaches to Hold Camps

Even though its still spring, the area basketball coaches are already gearing up for summer basketball camps.

At St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, coach Kevin McLinton will hold an assistant coaches clinic from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on May 31 at Godwin Gymnasium. Topics will include the University of Maryland’s flex offense, University of Charlotte’s quick hitters, West Virginia’s individual instruction drills and George Mason’s ball-screen defense. Guest speakers include former Wakefield standout and current Georgetown assistant Kenya Hunter, former LaSalle head coach Billy Hahn and former Bishop Ireton head coach Chuck Driesell.

Those who register before May 15 will pay a $50 fee, while any registrants after May 15 will be charged $60.

Current Ireton head coach Mark Vincent will also host four sessions of summer basketball camps, with two more slated at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Both camps are for 7-14-year-olds and will cost $250. The four sessions at Ireton, from June 23-27, July 21-25, July 28-August 1 and August 4-8 will last from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The girls session at Carl Sandburg will be June 30-July 3 with the boys going from July 7-July 10. Lunch will be provided and each camper will receive a T-shirt. Contact Mark Vincent at 703-212-5172 or via e-mail at markvincentbasketballcamps@gmail.com.
