The 2007 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics will be held Sept. 15-27, marking its 25th anniversary. Participants must be 50 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2007 and reside in one of the sponsoring Northern Virginia jurisdictions. Among the events offered for competition are track and field, swimming, card games, shuffleboard, tennis, horseshoes, pickleball, basketball, board games, bowling and golf. The Cancer Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing cancer prevention through education and research, is offering a free, eight-session cooking course designed to help people prevent and survive cancer through proper diet and nutrition. Local cooking instructor Jan Graves guides students through the preparation of the low-fat, vegetarian meals. Classes are noon-1 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 26, at Herndon Curves, 720 Grant St., Herndon.
