Long-time McLean Community Center supporter Bill Stell has been named the recipient of the Friends of the McLean Community Center's 2007 "Friend in Deed" award. Stell is the 14th person to receive this recognition "with gratitude for outstanding leadership and support of the McLean Community Center." He received a certificate of appreciation and a plaque with his name will be added to the "Friend in Deed" wall in the Center's main lobby.
A McLean resident since 1956, Stell was owner of the Stell Insurance Agency from 1969 until he retired in 1987. He has been a member of Chesterbrook Presbyterian Church for 40 years, where he still serves as a ruling elder. Over the years, he has held a number of leadership positions in McLean community organizations, including being a founding member of the McLean Rotary Club, the Falls Church-McLean Children's Center and the McLean Business and Professional Organization, the precursor of the McLean Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his long service to the Friends of the McLean Community Center, he also has served as a member of the McLean Project for the Arts Board of Directors.
