From professional riders to casual rollers, Arlington caters to a full array of bicycle enthusiasts this weekend.
On Saturday, June 2 the CSC Invitational will be held around Clarendon. Billed as the region's premiere professional bike race, the event is in its 10th year. Some of the world's best racing cyclists compete annually in the race, which takes place on a 1km course designed to be spectator-friendly.
Races begin at 8:25 a.m. with the 100-lap men's pro race scheduled for 12:25 p.m. Directions to the event and maps of the courses can be found by visiting www.cscinvitational.com.
On Sunday, June 3, the Arlington & Alexandria Community Bike Ride is scheduled to take place, rain or shine. From the starting point on South 28th Street in Shirlington, there are two different routes riders can take, depending on their experience and with whom they're biking.
The Family Ride course is a 7-mile loop that takes bikers around community flat trails like the W&OD, Mount Vernon and Four Mile Run.
The Community Race is a 23-mile loop for more experienced riders which includes those trails as well as several local neighborhoods and parts of Old Town Alexandria.
There will be rest stops at Bluemont Park, Rosslyn, Crystal City and Alexandria stocked with water, refreshments and restrooms
Registration and check-in is at 7 a.m. The community race begins at 8:00 a.m., while the family ride is at 8:30. Early registration ends on May 31 via www.waba.org; day of event registration is $20 per adult and $40 per family cash only. Riders 13-and-under are free.
