Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) announces a partnership with Target in recognition of its efforts in education in the visual arts. This grant will support the work of GRACE in the production of the 16th annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, which will be held on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20, at Reston Town Center.
This grant is part of ongoing efforts by Target to strengthen families and communities throughout the country. The festival will be both days, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., offering artwork by more than 185 painters, sculptors, fine crafters and jewelers on exhibit for purchase. Over both days, the Festival presents live music, festive foods, beer and wine garden, artist demonstrations, and the Children’s Art Tent. The American Diabetes Association will be hosting its annual Tour de Cure on Sunday, June 10, at Reston Town Center. The fund-raiser brings together 800 cyclists and volunteers in the greater Washington D.C. area. Riders travel on the W&OD trail across Fairfax and Loudoun Counties on 100-, 63-, 32- or 12-mile routes to raise money for diabetes advocacy, medical research, and awareness. Recent findings from the stream restoration program at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston proved that replanted buffers along the banks of streams not only captures trash and filter pollutants fom storm runoff. Buffers have immediate impact on moderating water temperature in streams. The program was launched in April 2005 by the Fairfax County Park Authority, U.S. Geological Survey, and the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, and is scheduled to continue for five years.
