The Republican Women of Clifton (RWC) hosted its first annual Membership Tea, filling the Heart in Hand Restaurant in the Town of Clifton on Sunday, April 29. Guest speakers U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11) and State Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites Davis (R-34) addressed current members, spouses and guests at the sold out event.
Following an invocation by RWC President Elizabeth Schultz, Davis offered insight into both local and federal politics. Devolites Davis noted the importance of volunteers to the many local campaigns for office in the November 2007 election and of voting in June 12 primary. She encouraged attendees to contribute time, talent and finances to the campaigns of Sen. Jay O'Brien (R-39), Sen. Ken Cucinelli (R-37), Del. Tim Hugo (R-40), as well as her own.
As part of the recent Virginia Federation of Republican Women’s Legislative Day, the RWC sent a delegation to Richmond to meet with GOP members of the Virginia General Assembly. The RWC had the largest delegation of any Republican Women's club in the Commonwealth at the event. Members enjoyed a luncheon meeting with O'Brien and Hugo and had the opportunity to hear from Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Ed Gillespie.
The RWC’s next monthly meeting will be Monday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Clifton Elementary School. Jean Ann Bolling, wife of the lieutenant governor, will be a guest at the meeting. Clifton Elementary is located at 7010 Clifton Road, Clifton.
