The Baskin Robbins in Centrewood Plaza held its 31 Cents Scoop Night last Wednesday, May 2. Some 45 firefighters and volunteers lent their scooping skills by selling 1,896 scoops. The corporate Baskin Robbins donated $100,000 to the Fallen Fire Fighters Association as well. The Centrewood Square store owner is Rayman Hamid who also owns the Baskin Robbins in Manassas-Wellington Station. Centreville Volunteer Fire Department's very own Pete Kirby lent his talents to the cause as well.

The Fair Lakes MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery at East Market will have its Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, May 12 from noon to 9 p.m. The day’s festivities will include appearances by Meteorologist Brian van de Graaff, Miss Hampton Holly Days 2007, and members of the Washington Glory professional women’s fast pitch softball team, as well as Miss Maggie Moo herself with fun activities for kids of all ages.

Raynor van der Merwe, artistic director of Encore Theatrical Arts Project in Chantilly (ETAP), will be honored by Celebrating African Motherhood at the C.A.M. Soiree 2007. Hosted by Shawn Yancy of Fox 5 News, this year’s event honors women of African descent who have made outstanding contributions to the arts.
