Former Redskin Dies In Sleep

Kevin Mitchell dies in home at age 36.

Kevin Mitchell, a former Washington Redskins linebacker and Ashburn resident, died at his home, Sunday, April 29. He was 36.

Mitchell died in his sleep overnight, but, as of press time, no cause of death had been determined. Mitchell came to the Redskins in 2000 and played through the 2003 season.

"Kevin and his family are in my thoughts and prayers today, and in the prayers of the entire Redskins organization," Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder said, in a press release. "He was one of the first players I bonded with and was a great family man. Anyone who knew him was touched by his smile, joy for life and love of his family. Anyone who ever played with him or against him never forgot it. He earned our deepest respect."

In 1994, the Syracuse graduate and Harrisonburg, Pa., native was drafted in the second round by the San Francisco 49ers, where he played for six years. In the 1998-99 season, Mitchell played with the New Orleans Saints.
