Units of the Alexandria Fire Department responded to a report of an incendiary fire at 227 Yale Drive at 2:35 p.m. Monday which resulted in two assault victims and two firefighters being transported to area hospitals.
The two injured firefighters were transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital, according to Jane Davidson Malik, public information officer, Alexandria Fire Department. "One was treated and released, the other was kept overnight," she said.
A male assault victim, age 32, was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital via Medivac unit, while a 28-year-old female victim was transported to Inova Alexandria, according to Malik. According to reports, the two victims were attacked by a third party who remains unidentified and at large, according to Alexandria Police.
Arriving at the scene, firefighters saw smoke coming from the back of a townhouse. The Fire destroyed the second and third floors of the three-story townhouse. Beginning on the second floor, the two-alarm blaze caused an estimated $450,000 damage to the structure and $5,000 to contents, according to the Fire Department.
