Azeeza Hasan, 9, of Ashburn, recently was named a finalist in the Giant Food’s Kitch'N Kid with 3-A-Day of Dairy recipe contest. She participated in the final "food fight" Saturday, April 21, at the Stratford University’s Culinary School. Her winning recipe was for Chipolte Veggie Stuffed Sandwiches.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Cary, North Carolina. And lived there for five years, then I moved to Virginia.
Tell us about your family.
We are a family of six. My Parents, my three sisters and me.
Favorite school subject:
Math.
What do you want to do when you get older?
I still don’t know what I’ll do when I grow up.
Awards and achievements:
In February, I won a V.P.E.P College Scholarship.
Mom’s Note - Azeeza had entered the Virginia College Savings Plan Poster Contest. I was informed by the executive director, Diana Cantor, that Azeeza was chosen as the third-grade winner. What are your hobbies?
I like to play basketball. I also like to ride my bike.
What are some ideas you have on ways to improve your community?
I wish people would stop littering and polluting.
What is the last book you read, favorite television show and last movie you saw?
Last book: "Molly Moon Stops the World."
Favorite TV show: "The Suite life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana."
Last movie: "The Pursuit of Happiness."
What is your favorite (or least favorite) thing about school?
Favorite is math and recess.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I might be almost starting high school at Briar Woods.
What are you looking forward to about vacation from school?
I want to go to Six Flags or Kings Dominion and ride on all the roller coasters.
Describe how you would most enjoy spending a single day?
Be at an amusement park.
Do you have a favorite quotation?
Never thought about it.
What is your award-winning recipe for? Will you share it with the readers?
My recipe is a sandwich, it will be published in the Giant Booklet. The sandwich is made with slices of potatoes, avocados, tomatoes and cheddar cheese all on a hard roll.
What inspired you to make the recipe?
I like avocados and potatoes.
Apart from your dish, what is your favorite food?
Lasagna and Hershey pie.
How was the final cook off? Did you have fun?
I had a great time and it was fun. I got many prizes like a MP3 player, cooler, aprons and a $1,000 bond.
