Phyllis M. Palmer, age 87, of Alexandria and former longtime Westford resident, died Monday, March 19 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Md.
She was born in Lowell, Mass. on June 30, 1919, daughter of the late Lewis & Josephine (Spillane) Palmer.
Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Westford, Mass. except for the last seven years when she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Eunice P. Yellman and her family in Alexandria and Naples, Fla.
She was a member of the 1936 graduating class of the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Mass. She continued her education at Regis College in Weston, Mass., and graduated in 1940 with a degree in science.
She worked for the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass., Saint John's Hospital in Lowell, Mass., and retired from the Veteran's Administration in Lowell, Mass. Phyllis' retirement years were spent with DeWolfe of New England Real Estate in Westford, Mass. as a broker.
According to the family, Phyllis traveled extensively, enjoyed her art work, and the garden club. She also enjoyed "Bridge" with the Catholic College Club and Regis Club. She was also a charter member of the Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro. Phyllis enjoyed her many friends.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Eunice Yellman and her husband, Col. Edward K Yellman, USA Retired, of Alexandria; four nephews: Edward Jr., and his wife Kristen, James P. and his wife Carol, Michael and his wife Nelly, Gregory and his wife Kimberly; and one niece, Donna Vasquez and husband Fausto; and nine great-nieces & nephews. She was also sister of the late John Floyd Palmer.
