Will Mannon, an 8th grader at Longfellow Middle School, set a new school record for the school’s “Pi Day” memorization contest. He memorized 1,300 digits of “Pi” but, in recitation, made an error at 956 digits — now the new official record for the school.
Last year, he set a Longfellow school record by reciting 580 digits. And in 6th grade, at Churchill Road Elementary School, he set its record with 200 digits.
Will won an apple pie to take home, along with a gift certificate for a pie of his choice at Pie Gourmet Bakery in Vienna. He was also given the title of Longfellow “Pi King” and earned some extra points towards his math grade.
