John Stevens (Potomac) will seek re-election to the School Board. He filled paperwork last week to appear on the November ballot.
Stevens serves on the finance, health safety and wellness, personnel and technology steering committees of the board. In his first few months, he has emphasized constituent service, school nutrition, environmentally friendly building design and energy-efficient practices.
"Though I am the incumbent, I have contemplated that this is not a re-election because I wasn't elected, I was selected," Stevens said in his blog. "Not one person from the district I represent had an opportunity to vote for me back in February. My aim now is to convince everyone in the Potomac District that given the chance, they would have anyway."
STEVENS JOINED the School Board in February. He was selected by the eight other board members to replace John Andrews who stepped down from his position when he moved out of the Potomac District.
"When I submitted my name for consideration to replace John Andrews, I committed to serving the remainder of his term plus another full term," Stevens said. "It gives me great pleasure to fulfill that commitment. I look forward continuing my work with parents, administrators and my colleagues on the board to improve our children’s preparedness for a lifetime of success through learning in a safe, healthy and challenging environment."
