Great Falls Elementary was recently recognized by Gov. Tim Kaine for earning a bronze Healthy Virginians award. The governor’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Awards program is part of the Healthy Virginians initiative that promotes good nutrition and regular physical activity. Using a web-based scorecard, schools record data and information concerning time allowed for physical activity, fitness or nutrition nights held to involve families in the program, and provision of food and beverages that meet specific nutritional standards.

Starshine Theater of Great Falls is now enrolling for its summer performance camps.

For students ages 8 through 18 years, there is a 2-week full-production camp’s original stage show “Pirates — to the Caribbean and Beyond.” The theater is seeking older teens with acting, dance or singing experience to serve as work-study-counselor apprentices for this show. There is also a new advanced dance intensive performance section for ages 12 and up. For ages 4 and a half through 8 years, Young Actors at “Starshine Little Theater” camp will compose and perform an original play with music and action/dance choreography. For students ages 3 through 5 years, “Starshine Little Dancers” will create and perform an original presentation using a variety of dance techniques and musical styles.
