Darrion Locke feels a little nostalgic when he returns to his old school. Now a Cabin John Middle School sixth-grader, Darrion volunteered to help run the games at the Bells Mill Bash last Friday.
"I wanted to help kids, and enjoy the memories," Darrion said. "A lot of memories. … I wish I could go back to elementary school."
Volunteering at the Bells Mill Bash is the next best thing, and Darrion has plenty of company. Bryant Wheatley, also a Cabin John sixth-grader and '06 Bells Mill grad, was among the dozens of alums who returned to help with the games, activities or concessions.
The Bash is Bells Mill Elementary's end-of-the-school-year tradition, but last Friday was also the end of an era — the school will undergo renovation partway through the upcoming school year. In December, Bells Mill students, teachers and staff will move to Grosvenor Elementary, which will be their temporary home for the following 18 months.
