West Potomac High School is looking for sponsors for its "All Night Graduation Celebration" held on June 14 at the ESPN Zone. The Mount Vernon High School Basketball Program will hold their annual FUNdamentals Basketball Camp this summer on Wednesday, June 20th – Saturday, June 23rd (corrected dates). There will be only one session of camp this year. The camp will be held at Mount Vernon High School (Entrance 6) from 8:30 a.m.–2 p.m. All students from grades 3-10 (school year 2007-2008) are welcome to register. Register by June 1st and receive the "Early Bird Special" rate of $100. After June 1, the registration fee will be $120. The FUNdamentals Camp is sponsored by the Mount Vernon High School Athletic Boosters.

All Mount Vernon area rising freshmen who will attend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology are invited to a local gathering on Sunday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 2511 Parkers Lane. Current TJHSST students and parents will share information about life at TJ, and they will also answer questions. A light dessert will be served. Rising U-16 girls WAGS Gunston Glory are looking for quality field players. Tryouts are June 6, June 11 and June 13 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Grist Mill Park in Alexandria. Contact manager Cindy McGovern 703-690-1853 or vamcgovernfam@verizon.net.

The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America at Mount Vernon High School participated in the State Leadership & Recognition Conference on April 26-29 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Krystina McCargo and Erin Myles earned a gold medal for their chapter showcase display. Vickie Chaing, Cathy Eyi-Mensah and Yanet Takele earned a silver medal for "National Programs in Action." Cassie Palas, Thalia Romero and Christina Sasorith earned a silver medal for their "Chapter Service Project Display." FCCLA sponsors Bev Card and Roxie Godfrey accompanied the students to the conference.

The following West Potomac High School students were accepted into the Virginia Governor’s School: Emily Kuhbach, Humanities; Hunter Link, Humanities; Michael O’Keefe, Humanities; Zachary Krohmal, Agriculture; Meaghan Wilson, Agriculture; Johanna Salas, Arts; Amazing Grace Danso, French; Danica Hawkins, French; Melih Ertekin, Spanish; and Erika Swartz, Spanish.

Also, junior Hunter Link was the winner of this year’s Hodgson Award for English Composition. Hunter received the highest score in Fairfax County in this category on his Governor’s School application.

Mount Vernon High School photojournalism students attended the National Scholastic Press Association conference. Amanda Schmick was awarded a superior medal for yearbook cover design, theme and layout design. She was one of two participants at the convention to receive the All Superior award. Sam McCann received the same award for yearbook sports copy and caption writing. He was one of four students selected for the All Superior medalist award. Tess Mackey earned an Excellent rating for her yearbook copy writing about clubs and organizations. She was one of six students to receive that award. Natalie Lord received an Honorable Mention for yearbook layout and design. Allison Leisner received an Honorable Mention for yearbook feature copy writing.

Drew Smith received the second place award in the 8th Congressional District Art Competition for her photography image titled "Sunset of the Soul" and Nora Dickert received Honorable Mention for her photo titled "The Red Stairs."
