Tracy DeMocker from Langley High School is attending this summer’s Governor’s School for the Humanities at the University of Richmond. The four-week program is designed to encourage students’ individual growth and to challenge them to achieve personal excellence in their fields. To be selected to participate, students must be nominated by their high school and compete in a statewide selection process.

Two McLean residents have been selected for Honors Admission to the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg:

Christine Andrea Bax, a 2007 graduate of McLean High School, is the daughter of Cheryl and Frans Bax. A member of the National Honor Society, she received honorable mention in the Toshiba National Science Competition. She was a member of the All-District Band, All-State Band, marching band and symphonic band, as well as a ballet dancer for 14 years with the James School of Dance. She has also taken part in a mission trip to Uganda to assist individuals infected with HIV/AIDS.

Borwyn Ann Wang, a 2007 graduate of Langley High School, is the daughter of Ray and Chih Wang. She was president of the Chinese Student Association, and worked with the group to raise $1,000 in school supplies for the Chi-in Elementary School in the Heilongjiang province of China. She has also been a teaching assistant at the Rockville Chinese School. She serves as historian of the Latin Honor Society and participate in the National Latin Exam, earning cum laude honors in 2004. She was also a member of the junior varsity volleyball team.

Jeffrey H. Morse of McLean has recently become recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, national leadership and honors organization at the University of Virginia. Sigma Alpha Lambda is dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service and personal development.

Marie R. DeLutz of McLean, an international affairs major at Northeastern University, was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

Georgetown University has recently named McLean student Anna Schmitz to the dean’s list for academic accomplishments in the spring semester. Prior to attending Georgetown, Anna attended St. Marks School.

Tufts University recently named McLean student Leah Gross of the Class of 2010 to the dean’s list for the spring semester.
