The Sheriff’s Office is searching for a pendant designed for the wife of a member of the 1992 Redskin Super Bowl champion team.
The jewelry and several other items were removed from the Ashburn home of Earnest Byner during the week of July 4.
"It is an exact replica of the top of his Super Bowl ring that was made into a pendant for his wife," Kraig Troxell, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Byner asked a 15-year-old from his neighborhood to watch his home while he was on vacation. While Byner was away, the juvenile gave a 17- and 18-year-old access to the former Redskin’s home.
When Byner returned, he saw the items were missing and asked the juvenile watching his house about their whereabouts, Troxell said. Soon after several items, including more jewelry, a digital camera and a video-gaming system, were returned.
The pendant, along with several collectible figurines, a pair of diamond earrings, a Rolex watch, a tennis bracelet and a gold ring, were not returned.
As of press time, no charges have been filed against any of the three people involved, but Troxell said there is no charges of home invasion pending since the one juvenile had access to the home.
The Sheriff’s Office has determined that the 15-year-old who was watching the house was not involved in the actual theft.
Byner, who was a running back for the 1992 championship team, now serves as running backs coach for the Redskins.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the pendant is asked to call Investigator D. Orr of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. To remain anonymous, call Loudoun County Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919.
