Driving along Waxpool Road, it would be easy to think that all activity at the golf course being constructed at the intersection of Broderick Drive has stopped, but that is not the case.
The Presidential Golf Club and its course are on track, Rebecca Mast of Presidential Golf said.
"There is still work going on, but it’s just not visible from the road," Mast said. "We’re getting ready to pick construction back up."
The golf club, which was given final approval by the Board of Supervisors last summer, is made up of 190 acres on the north side of Waxpool Road and an additional 125 acres along the south side of the road.
While the clubhouse and course have been under construction for a more than a year, recently activity on site appeared to have slowed significantly.
"We had some construction and some financial issues," Mast said. "But we are ready to move forward."
Originally the opening date for some of the amenities on the site was scheduled for this fall, but Mast said those dates have been pushed back.
"Now, we are targeting an opening date of April 1, 2008," she said.
So far six holes have been completed on the golf course, with the next three scheduled for completion shortly.
The Presidential Golf Club will be a private golf club, designed for corporate memberships and as an entertainment destination. The project will also include the Jack Nicklaus Academy of Golf, whose clubhouse is located off of Waxpool Road. The larger clubhouse for the private course will be located across from the Wegman’s and the Dulles 28 Centre, Mast said. That clubhouse is scheduled to be opened in 2010.
Mast said the delay has not caused any problems with the county building permits and expects that construction will be able to pick up right where it slowed.
"It’s just been an ongoing slow process," she said.
