Cooper Middle School is introducing Homework Club after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting this Thursday, Jan. 11, in room 121. The late buses will be available at 4:15 on Thursdays. There are no late buses on Tuesdays, so parents will need to pick-up students by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Everyone is invited.
Dyer-Gunnell American Legion Post 180, based in Vienna, is sponsoring their 70th annual National Student Oratorical Contest, rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13. Middle and high school students are encouraged to participate; scholarships are awarded at the post, district, state and national levels of competition. Fairfax County schools are invited to the U.S. Department of Education’s Tuesday, Jan. 16, pre-show evening reception and live public television broadcast of Education News Parents Can Use. The topic for the show is “No Child Left Behind Anniversary: Stories of Success.” Roundtrip bus transportation may be reserved for a group of 40 people that would like to attend the free reception and broadcast. The Capitol Steps are coming to Langley High School again this year. The Class of 2007 presents the Capitol Steps on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Some students will get extra credit for attending. Proceeds from the sale of the tickets will support the 2007 All Night Grad Party. Intramurals is starting a basketball league at Cooper Middle School on Thursdays. Thursdays in January are open to anyone who wants to play.
