Five-year-old Kristen Waagner grew her hair for one year just to cut it all off.
The kindergartner at Lowes Island Elementary School got the idea to donate her hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides wigs for children with long-term medical hair loss free of charge or for a fraction of the price, from her 13-year-old cousin.
Kristen’s mother, Margaret Waagner, took her to the Hair Cuttery in Potomac Falls Thursday, Dec. 21.
"This is a great way for small children to get involved in community service," she said. "This is a great way for someone small to do something for someone else."
