The company takes a unique approach to charitable giving by allowing each employee to designate the recipient organization and the donation is made on behalf of the employee. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) is hosting a series of three workshops for small business owners and entrepreneurs who are interested in entering the export market. Topics will include an overview of state and federal government resources, market research, the exporting process and export financing. The workshops will be held Feb. 27 and March 27. Participants will receive a Certificate of Training for attending all three sessions. There is no charge for the workshops but pre-registration is required. The Leadership Conference will be held Saturday, March 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McLean Hilton in Tysons Corner. This is an annual event hosted by The Women’s Center that connects leaders and business professionals across the metropolitan area. This year’s Conference will focus on “The Power of Connection,” and will bring together some 800 individuals of varied backgrounds, professions, and ages in one unique and exciting event. Leadership Fairfax Inc. (LFI), a nonprofit organization that develops current and rising leaders in Northern Virginia, is seeking candidates for its two leadership programs – the Leadership Fairfax Signature Program and the Emerging Leaders Institute. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority announced the election of new officers to the NVRPA Board. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority is governed by a 12-member policy-making Board. The city council or county board of each jurisdiction appoints two members to the NVRPA Board. NVRPA is made up of the counties of Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington, and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax. William (Bill) Dickinson of Alexandria was reelected as the Board chairman and will begin his third one-year term in that position. The position of vice chair will be filled by James I. Mayer from Arlington County. Mayer had previously served as the Board treasurer. Joan G. Rokus, board member from Loudoun County, was elected to fill the position of treasurer, a position she had held previously with the organization. Rokus has also served in the past as Vice Chair of NVRPA, and used to serve as a member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. Jeffrey Tarbert of Falls Church was elected to a seat as the fourth member of the NVRPA Executive Committee. Tarbert joined the NVRPA Board in 2005. He previously served as the Mayor of the City of Falls Church.
The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) had no work time or days lost in 2006 due to accidents. At the January employee meetings, Construction Manager Skip Hollcroft credited the near-perfect record to employees following safety rules and procedures, which are reinforced at bimonthly safety meetings at the Cooperative. NOVEC has more than 300 employees Many of them work directly with electricity and dangerous industrial equipment.
The Centreville Rotary Club has moved its meeting location from the I-Hop in Centreville to the EggsSpectations Restaurant in Chantilly. The Rotary Club meets Tuesdays from 11:30-12:30 p.m. for lunch. There is a new guest speaker every week with topics ranging from estate planning to how the Rotary helps during emergencies. AARP Tax-Aide, a free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service, is seeking volunteers to electronically complete and file 2006 federal and state income tax forms. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome but ability to use a computer is a must. Evening and Saturday shifts are available. Tax counselors receive free tax training and become IRS certified by passing the IRS examination.
