The Virginia Department of Transportation installed a three-way stop sign at the intersection of North Shore Drive with Village Road at the Lake Anne Village Center. The improvements are in response to pedestrian safety concerns expressed by local residents and politicians.
"It is a tough, tough intersection," said Robin Smyers, Reston Association director for Lake Anne and Tall Oaks. "Any improvements to slow people down, I thank them for doing that," she said.
The crews installed the stop signs and "Stop Ahead" pavement markers on North Shore Drive, north and south of the intersection. A pedestrian crosswalk is planned for the north side of the intersection, just before the gas station. The crosswalk cannot be positioned until a ramp is built into the sidewalk near the gas station.
