Karen Fulkerson, a Tastefully Simple consultant and resident of Little Rocky Run, received an award at the direct selling company's national conference July 26-29 in Minneapolis. Fulkerson was honored for her sales success with Tastefully Simple's convenience-oriented gourmet foods during the past year. With members of her 30-person team watching, Fulkerson accepted the "Mover & Shaker Sales Award" from Jill Blashack Strahan, Tastefully Simple founder and CEO. The award, honoring her achievement of reaching $35,000-$49,000 in sales, is an achievement among the company's more than 21,000 consultants.

Chantilly's AMEC, the international project management and services company, has been awarded a five-year contract worth up to $40 million by FEMA for flood map modernization services in FEMA Region III (Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C.). The project will be managed by AMEC's office in Chantilly.

Bowman Consulting of Chantilly, teaming with Lessard Group Architects, was recognized in one of the Southeast’s most prestigious design competitions — The AURORA Awards for their work in “The Brownstones at Park Potomac.” Entries were judged on landscape architecture, overall architectural design, floor plan function and design, livability, cost efficiency, interior merchandising and construction value.

The accounting firm of Thompson, Greenspon & Co., P.C. announces that Sirena G. Johnson and William G. Astrab have been promoted to associate principals in the firm.

Johnson, a graduate of George Mason University, joined Thompson, Greenspon & Co., P.C. in 1999 and has an expertise in working with Federal government contracting and construction clients, as well as employee benefit plans.

Astrab, a graduate of Penn State University, joined Thompson, Greenspon & Co., P.C. in 2002 as a manager in the accounting and audit department. His areas of expertise include financial institutions, government contractors, not-for-profits and employee benefit plans.

CENTURY 21 New Millennium in Centreville is in the middle of its annual school supply drive. The backpack collection drive runs from now until Aug. 17. Backpacks may be dropped off at the office located at 5109 Westfields Blvd., next to Safeway. Cash donations will also be accepted to purchase additional supplies. All proceeds will be donated to a local elementary school to provide for less-privileged children in our area.

INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) Thrift Shop needs volunteers to work 3-4 hours a week. Call 703-391-3659 for information regarding the next orientation for volunteers. The Thrift Shop is operated entirely by IFOH Auxiliary volunteers six days a week (Mon.-Sat.). The Thrift Shop is located at Fairfax Circle Shopping Center with parking available. The Thrift Shop needs responsible individuals who are willing to sort donated merchandise, operate the cash register, price and display items, assist customers, and perform various other duties.

Case of Chantilly will serve as a corporate sponsor for the annual Ryan McLaughlin Memorial Golf Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 16 at Pleasant Valley Golfer’s Club. Created in 2000, the tournament is held in memory of Ryan McLaughlin, an eighth-grader who lost his battle against leukemia in 1999. Proceeds of the tournament will be donated to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (through the Young Hearts "Light the Night" Team) in support of its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Case has participated as a tournament sponsor since 2005.
