Allan Rodger Winn, Jr., of Alexandria, and Raquel Gomez Aragon of Zamora, Spain, were united in marriage on June 23, in a bi-lingual ceremony officiated by the Rev. George A. Pera, pastor emeritus, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Alexandria. The 7 p.m. ceremony took place at the Parador of Zamora followed by a dinner reception and a full night of dancing.
In the Spanish tradition, the groom was attended by his mother, Susan Winn. The bride was attended by Arturo Juan Gogo.
Attending from Alexandria, in addition to the Rev. Pera and his wife Nancy Pera, were Mr. and Mrs. Allan Winn Sr., Peter and Megan Sharp, and Zach Stryke. Members of the groom's family in attendance included his grandmother Betty Winn of Newtown, Pa.; his sister Katie Winn Boyer, her husband Charles and their children Maddie and David of Morristown, N.J.; his aunt Barbara Winn of New York City; his aunt and uncle Mary Beth and George Santoni of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; his aunt Mary Stephens of Lakeland, Fla.; and two cousins, Christa Stephens and Greg Santoni.
Other attendees from the United States were Michael and Jamie Sullivan of Trappe, Md.; Thomas Condit, formerly of Alexandria, and Bernadette Messina; as well as various college friends.
Prior to the wedding, the groom, dressed in typical Spanish village attire and accompanied by friends playing bagpipes and drum, serenaded the bride from the square outside the Parador. This affirmed his anticipation of the marriage and announced to family and friends the commencement of the wedding ceremony and festivities.
Ms. Gomez is a member of the private banking group of Caja Rural Bank in Zamora. The groom is a graduate of T.C. Williams High School and Williams College in Massachusetts. He is the proprietor of The Allan School of English in Zamora. Following a wedding trip to Portugal the couple will reside in Zamora.
