The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of an assault along the W&OD trail near Ashburn. The reported assault occurred late in the evening of Thursday, July 26, on the trail near Ashburn Road.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a 47-year-old Ashburn woman was riding her bike along the W&OD trail around 11:15 p.m. when she was allegedly assaulted from behind. The victim told the Sheriff’s Office she believed there were two suspects who she described as dark-skinned males with dark hair.
The woman said she screamed and heard someone else yell, which caused the suspects to flee the scene.
"This is an attempted sexual assault," Kraig Troxell, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said.
Investigators conducted both a ground and aerial search of the area, but did not locate the suspects.
"We are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time, who might have heard something or seen the suspects on the trail to contact us," Troxell said.
