The National Science League test is an annual test given nationwide to measure the science knowledge of school age children. Cooper Middle School will administer this test after school on Monday, April 30. 7th graders will take the Life Science test in the cafeteria, and 8th graders will take the General Science test in the library. Participating students will challenge themselves with critical thinking questions, practice their test-taking skills, and may be recognized as a top scorer at the School Awards at the end of the year. Interested students must sign up by Friday, April 27, with their science teacher.

Tuesday, May 1 is the last chance for McLean High School students to preorder a yearbook. Order forms are available on the door of the yearbook room, in the main office and on the MHS homepage. Those who have already pre-ordered books are included on a list posted outside the clinic, and students can e-mail meghan.percival@fcps.edu to check if they are on the list.

Janie Strauss, Dranesville district School Board member, is holding a Dranesville District Dialogue, Wednesday, May 9, 7:30-9 p.m. Colvin Run Elementary School Cafeteria. The symphonic orchestra from Cooper Middle School performed at District Orchestra Festival recently. The orchestra received all superior ratings, the highest rating possible, from all four judges.

Taylor L. Shaw of McLean, a 2006 graduate of Langley High School and currently a student in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall quarter.

Tricia M. Maggio, a sophomore English major from McLean, was named to the fall 2006 semester dean’s list at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. To qualify, a student must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better.

The National Scholastic Press Association’s Honor Roll of Student Journalists honors students who have excelled as both journalists and scholars. 12 yearbook and five newspaper staffers from McLean High School have been named to the 2006-2007 Journalism Honor Roll: Beth Cannon, Tess Engebretson, Danielle Fisher, Marissa Gitler, Anna Glendening, Jessica Goodman, Caroline Hecht, Kenzie McCluer, Kelly Phelan, Scott Richardson, Asha Toulmin, Anske Venter, Caroline Chon, Jasmine Mohandesi, Sarah Ross, Lisa Sullivan and Margaret Welch.

Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. honored Corey Elizabeth Sullivan at the Peabody College for the fall 2006 dean's list. To qualify, students must receieve grades equivalent to a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

Victoria Weiss of McLean was named to Susquehanna University’s dean’s list for the fall 2006 semester. The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or higher out of a possible 4.0. Weiss, a freshman liberal arts major, is a 2006 graduate of Langley High School and the daughter of Todd Weiss and Cherylyn Briggs.

Seven McLean residents have been named to the fall semester dean’s list at Radford University. They are Anne Marie O’Bryan, senior psychology major; Wetherly Christine Barker, senior interdisciplinary studies major; Justin Lewis Spees, junior psychology major; Annabel Leah Drucker, sophomore media studies major; Robert George Vorthman, senior information science and systems major; Alyson Leigh Richardson, senior nursing major; and Sean Keenan Gallahan, junior finance major.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have taken 15 or more credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.4 or above with no grade below a C.

David Raber and Stephan Young, both of McLean was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2006 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Raber is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology, and Young is a graduate of Landon School. Both are enrolled in the university’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade of 3.6 or above and be enrolled in 12 graded units.

John McConnell, Kerry Rheinstein and Lauren Reisig of McLean was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2006 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. McConnell is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, Rheinstein is a graduate of Holton Arms School and Reisig is a graduate of Langley High School. All are enrolled in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in 14 graded units.

Jessica Prager Schulman, a senior majoring in microbiology at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean’s list for academic achievement for the fall 2006 semester. Schulman is a resident of McLean, the daughter of Steve Schulman and Rolly Prager, and a graduate of Langley High School.
