Around 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, Kenneth Kronberg, 58, of Leesburg, jumped to his death from the overpass at Waxpool Road onto the northbound lanes of Route 28.
While several vehicles were traveling in the area at the time of the incident, Troxell said it does not appear that any of them struck the victim after he fell. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.
"We are asking anyone who was in the area to contact us," Troxell said.
Troxell said there was one witness driving southbound on Route 28 who saw the victim fall.
"There are no witnesses of him jumping at this time," Troxell said. "It's hard to believe this was just an accident. It appears at this time that this person took his own life."
The incident shut down Waxpool Road for three hours Wednesday morning while the Sheriff's Office conducted its investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and who has not spoken with authorities is asked to contact Sheriff's Investigator K. Poland at 703-777-0475.
