Police Search for Witness
On Friday March 16, Gordon Edward Brightly, Jr., 48, of Clubhouse Drive in Leesburg, was charged with driving while intoxicated. The warrant was served to Brightly at Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was recuperating from injuries sustained during a car accident that had occurred the previous night. On Thursday, March 15, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Anton Stefan Sjostrom, 27, a resident of Olde Tiverton Circle in Reston, was killed in a car crash. Fairfax County Police said Sjostrom had just been involved in a minor car accident and had stepped from his vehicle, which was blocking a westbound lane of Leesburg Pike near Georgetown Pike. According to police, both the victim and his 2004 Toyota Camry were struck from behind by a 1999 Dodge Dakota, operated by Brightly. Brightly’s Dakota continued to cross into the eastbound lanes and came to rest striking a guard rail. Sjostrom was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Brightly and his passenger were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Investigation is ongoing, and the detectives working on this case would like to speak with a woman who spoke briefly with officers at the scene. She reportedly followed one of the vehicles on Leesburg Pike prior to the accident. She is described as white in her mid-30s, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, with shoulder-length brown hair.
