Two occupants of a Pohick house at 8458 Rushing Creek Court were admitted Friday, March 30, to the Washington Hospital Burn Center as a result of injures sustained in a fire that enveloped both floors of the two-story dwelling, according to Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department.
Upon arrival at approximately 12:25 p.m. firefighters saw flames coming from the front and side of the first and second floors of the single-family home. They extinguished the blaze in approximately 15 minutes.
Only the two injured occupants, one adult and one youth, were at home at the time. Their gender, age, and present condition were not released due to hospital restrictions on such information, according to Daniel L. Schmidt, departmental public information officer.
However, the fire displaced a family of five who are being assisted by the Red Cross. Although smoke alarms were present in the home they did not activate, according to the report.
Fire investigators have determined the fire was accidental, attributed to improperly discarded smoking materials in an upstairs bedroom. Damaged has been estimated at $200,000.
IN A SECOND Pohick house fire on April 2 there were no reported injuries. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
Upon arrival at approximately 1:25 p.m., Fairfax County Fire & Rescue units saw smoke and fire coming from the rear and attic of a two-story, single-family contemporary home at 7607 Chancellor Way. It was brought under control in 10 minutes, they reported.
Originating in the living room area, the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. One adult female, who was not home at the time of the fire, was displaced and is presently staying with friends.
